Things are still quite slow in northern MI. Local stream was only 34F today. Waiting for a push of steel, but until the water warms up a few more degrees, I don't expect a lot of action. In the southern part of the state, I see that there are plenty of fish to play with. What's up in your neck of the woods?

Things are breaking up right now and the water is very high. The lakes will start breaking up here pretty quick. Should be fishing by May1st. Got any good stealhead fly patterns there bud?

Mostly, I swing streamers, which seems to be more effective for the fall run . . . nutcrackers, purple wooly sculpins, white madonnas.
In the spring, yarn flies are a no-brainer, of course. Beyond that, I like this wiggle hex nymph. It works really well in the winter, for both browns and steelhead out of deep holes (either indy or bottom bouncing). I've used it this time of year, as well, with fair results. http://wolverineflyfishingjournal.com/content/rabbit-strip-wiggle-hex-nymph.

This spring, I've been leaving the steelhead alone, and getting back to my roots. Been re-learning how to catch small trout, and taking my CSF group out to get 'em hooked.

Been having a great time, too.

Best of luck.

I've just returned from a mission trip to Nicaragua. Went deep sea fishing 1/2 day and caught tuna, 3 huge Spanish Mackarel and 2 red snapper. What a morning!
