Chapter Leadership Training Introduction
This leadership training publication has been prepared for the purpose of helping church leaders to encourage, empower then engage Christian sportsmen in developing a viable men’s outreach to sportsmen. Relevant men’s ministry events and projects provide the basis for fellowship where growth occurs around common passions which then lead to long term friendships. Used as a personal or group devotional, chapter leaders have found the F.I.R.E. Publication to be very helpful in understanding the sportsmen’s central role in fulfilling the Great Commission. As sportsmen, we can unashamedly utilize our passions for hunting, fishing and target shooting to bring men, women, boys and girls to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Walking with God
CSF’s 2009 theme, “Walking with God”, builds on the intriguing metaphor incorporated into CSF referred to as Climbing Legacy Mountain… a discipling track to follow!
The bible relates a fascinating story of a fellow outdoorsman named Simon Peter who began Climbing Legacy Mountain after his brother and fishing partner, Andrew, introduced him to Jesus. Following this encounter with the Master Fisherman Simon Peter’s life was changed for eternity.
The first step in following the LORD was accomplished at this BASE Camp level as Andrew invited Peter to “come and see” the Messiah. We see this model again with Philip, a fellow fisherman from the town of Bethsaida, who also took to heart his personal call as a follower of Christ. The Bible states that Philip found Nathaniel and invited him to “come and see” this man from Nazareth. Similarly Nathaniel’s life was changed for eternity.
This first century church team was well on their way to bringing together a small group of committed followers of Christ who were ready to go the distance in fulfilling God’s plan for sharing Christ with other men in their community. These self taught believers began their adventure together in Walking with God as they brought great encouragement to friends and family members who were aimlessly wandering through life with no purpose or direction.
Most sportsmen learn to be discerning as they apply wisdom to their acquired skills. In each instance both Peter and Nathaniel placed high priority on the credibility of the one who invited them to “come and see” this man from Nazareth. Each new follower of Christ was then empowered to “come and grow” together at the EQUIPPING Camp, the next step in their personal discipling process.
In our current day and age Christian sportsmen can follow the simple process of Climbing Legacy Mountain as they begin Walking with God.
Check out Fellowship with Purpose to learn more about Climbing Legacy Mountain and how you can respond to God’s call on your own life by bringing together an inner circle of men to fulfill the Great Commission in your own church community.
